Say drug users leaving treatment facilities in Illinois service providers

SPRINGFIELD, ill. ‧ Social service providers say addicts are walking out of detoxification centers around Illinois this week, after learning that the State Government is eliminating funding for substance abuse treatment, in a move that should save $ 53 million.

A user of heroin during rehabilitation at Prairie Center Health Systems in Urbana, ill., told local media that He walked from the treatment, because he had no hope, "said Bruce suardini, CEO of treatment center.

Illinois House Democrats urge bipartisan for gov. Pat quinn to stop the Elimination of funding treatment addiction announced Wednesday, Suardini and other service providers, said he feared the outcome of the closures on their customers.

"Said that he or other people will die," said Suardini, referring to the user of heroin. "And I think".

Quinn announced last week that would go into effect March 15, 53 million in spending cuts substance abuse. Rep Sara feigenholtz, D-Chicago, of State and State Rep Jim Watson, R-Jacksonville, sponsors are the Illinois House resolution in response to the announcement.

"I think there should be cuts in human services," said Feigenholtz. "But I also believe that people in the Office budget need to look better than other aspects of the budget and where else we can cut off instead of constantly come to the human services appropriations Committee".

Official details about the cuts are expected Tuesday, but Office Quinn has remained silent.

Critics say that eliminating the financing will cost State in other ways, including increasing health costs for treating addicts, new burdens for the criminal justice system, and unemployment benefits due to workers in the Centre of treatment expected to 5,000 lose their jobs.

The proposal is HR106.
