Man and woman held in separate drug seizures

TWO people were arrested in Dublin over the weekend following separate seizures of drugs combined with an estimated value of EUR 1.2 million.


A man in his 40s was arrested on Saturday after members of the Garda National Drugs and organized crime units searched local area in North Co Dublin.


Cannabis resin with an estimated street value of $ 900,000 was recovered during the search which gardai said was "an operation based on intelligence".


The man is in custody at Ashbourne Garda station.


In a separate surveillance operation guided by Garda drugs unit but also involving officers from revenue's customs service, about 25 kg of herbal cannabis were seized in guest accommodation in Dublin's North inner city.


Drugs, with an estimated street value of £ 300,000 were seized following a systematic analysis of a British citizen who arrived in Ireland from South Africa.


The woman in her 40s takes place in the context of criminal justice (Act of drug trafficking) 1996 to Pearse Street Garda.
