SPRINGFIELD, ill. (CBS/AP)- Groups that treatment services for peopl abuse drugs and alcohol do have pro tes tic dramatic funding cuts by gov. Pat Quinn.
The Illinois Department of Human Services has started to inform of suppliers who provide addiction treatment services that State funds are cut off on 15 March.
The move is part of Quinn's efforts to cut spending and help balance the State budget for 2012.
Advocates said Wednesday that the cuts will force them to stop the service for 55,000 people and 5,000 workers redundant. They predicted that the move would lead to more crime, more traffic accidents and more pressure on hospitals and prisons.
Bruce Swuardini of the Urbana Prairie Center health systems said that his organization already started her treatment program shutdown.
The Illinois alcoholism and drug dependence Association accused Quinn of a "cruel hoax" for their support on a tax increase search and then cutting funds.
Quinn's office back repeated messages seeking information on the cuts.
